In those parts of the world where Islam dominates the society’s culture, special violence is reserved for those who have seen the light of Christ and choose to follow Him.

Gobera Bashir, 27, had grown up in a Muslim family living in Kakoli village, Uganda. On March 4th, he attended a church service with a friend. God opened Gobera’s eyes then to the redeeming love of Jesus for him, and he gave his life to Christ. The church pastor prayed with him, gave him a Bible, and kindly warned him: “Be cautious when reading the Bible, since your family is a Muslim family.”

Four days later Gobera was quietly reading his Bible in his room when his little sister found him and asked, “Why are you reading the Bible? You know our family only reads the Koran.”

Then on March 10 at 9:30pm several masked people forced their way into Gobera’s home. “As they entered the house, they found me in the sitting room and began tying my arms and legs with ropes and shouting, ‘Shame! Shame! You are bringing a bad omen to the family with your bad Christian religion. Our family is a Muslim family,'” Bashir told Morning Star News in an interview.

One of them took out a thermos and poured its contents, hot oil, onto Goberba’s clothes and exposed skin. Christian neighbors came to his rescue and helped him escape the attack. Pray for our Christian brother Gobera now as he remains in hiding with local Christians and heals from the severe burns covering 40% of his body.

“Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced.
Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do His will. And
I know that I will not be put to shame.” — Isaiah 50:7
